Hope Shines in Houston

On October 7, 2008, the nationwide launch of Hope Shining continued with a press conference in Houston, Texas in partnership with our friends at the Children's Assessment Center.

The day started at Commissioner's Court, where the County Judge of Harris County publicly acknowledged Hope Shining and the importance of its mission in protecting children in Houston and throughout the country. The Children's Assessment Center was also given a proclamation from the county to further acknowledge Hope Shining's partnerships and efforts. Jen Luffey from Proud National Sponsor Capital One was thanked by the commissioners for Capital One's generous support of Hope Shining.

Later that day, the press conference drew an audience of approximately 120 guests and at least ten camera crews and reporters. The speakers passionately advocated for involvement from various sectors in protecting children. Captial One's Ricky Otey spoke about the commitment that the company is making to the community, even in light of the financial crisis taking place nationally.

The morning's thunderstorms were washed away just in time for hope to shine at the Dunvale branch of Capital One Bank. While the press conference was taking place, the branch distributed several hundred Hope Shining tip cards to customers and community members with help from the Sunny 99.1 Street Team. The branch hosted volunteers from the Children's Assessment Center in handing out the tip cards, and branch managers and Capital One volunteers from other locations also joined in the festivities for the afternoon.

We were extremely pleased with the whole day and know that Hope Shining will undoubtedly have an impact in the Houston area as so many incredibly committed leaders are involved in this movement.
