2008 Public Awareness Campaign

The Hope Shining national public awareness campaign launched in the fall of 2008, a season when families typically turn their attention to sending their children back to school and concerns about child safety often emerge.

Nearly 900,000 children in this country will suffer abuse or neglect this year. Too often this abuse goes unnoticed and the voices of these children are not heard - four of them will die every day as a result. Most of these children are under four years old, and almost half will not live to see their first birthday.

The 2008 Hope Shining campaign focuses on those who are most vulnerable: infants and toddlers who are so dependent on adults to ensure their safety and well-being.

The 2008 public awareness effort is being made possible through the incredible support of proud Hope Shining national sponsor Capital One, whose vision and dedication to the community is allowing Safe Horizon to raise awareness of child abuse and neglect on a national scale. Special thanks also go out to the New York Community Trust, which has provided generous support to this campaign.

Unlike any other effort committed to addressing the impacts of violence and abuse on children and families, Hope Shining is rallying corporations, nonprofit and government organizations, consumers, celebrities and caring individuals everywhere to recognize the signs of abuse and take action to address this epidemic.

The 2008 Hope Shining public awareness campaign is a model of this vision of collaborative effort for a greater cause. Sign up to receive updates about the Hope Shining campaign and learn ways that you can help us shine a light of hope for children through the upcoming campaign.
